Moncada, led by the experienced musician Jorge Gómez, has been present in Cuban and international stages for more than 30 years.

Since their memorable concerts held at the stairs of the University of Havana, Moncada has been outstanding for rescuing the Latin American rhythms and genres and the constant development of Cuban popular music.

Its impressive résumé includes festivals like the San Remo Festival in Italy; the Montreal Jazz Festival and the Winnipeg Folk Festival in Canada; the Paleo Folk Festival (Nyon) in Switzerland; the MIDEM/95 World Record Festival (Cannes) in France; and remarkable presentations in places like Berklee School of Music (Boston), Inner City Community Center (Los Angeles) and Ontario Theater (Washington) in the United States; Palatrussarrdi (Milan), Tenda Strisce (Rome), Piazza Maggiore (Bologna), Piazza del Popolo (Rome) and Piazza della Signoria (Firenze) in Italy; Hot Brass (Paris) in France; Camdem Center (London) in England; Latin American Memorial (Sao Paulo) in Brazil; Santa Laura Stadium (Santiago de Chile). Moncada represented Cuba at the Festival of the Americas on the occasion of the Pan-American Games (PanAm Games´99) and was the great news during the 2001 Folklorama Festival (Winnipeg) in Canada.

In 2003, the group was once again invited to attend the Panamerican Games held, this time, in the Dominican Republic.

Joan Manuel Serrat, Jon Hendricks, Carl Palmer, Manuel Mijares, Guadalupe Pineda, Toquinho, Phil Manzanera, Pierangelo Bertoli and Ana Oxa, just to mention a few, have joined their voices and instruments to Moncada on records and live shows as well as television presentations. In Cuba, between January 2000 and October 2003 alone, they performed more than 350 shows for some 2.500,000 people.

The many awards and distinctions received by Moncada include the 1999 and 2003 Cuba Disco Awards; the Lucas Awards for the best video-clips of national production from 1999 to 2002, as well as the Cuban Culture prize of Distinction.
