OSVALDO MENDOZA HERNÁNDEZ,
Waldo was born in Havana city, on 22/9/1966. From a very early age Waldo liked music. His parents remember that at the age of 2, he was singing and playing Cuban “claves”.
Many parties and celebrations were held in his area and he took part in most of them. Sometimes he sang, danced, played the guitar, or just clapped his hands.
During primary school, he took part in the Amateur Artists Movement and also achieved recognition and won several awards at music events and festivals as a teenager. This increased his interest in the music world and consequently, he took guitar classes, percussion and singing lessons, leading him to join different music groups playing traditional Cuban music as well as Latin music.
He is a University Graduate in Musical Teaching. There he performed with the award winning group “Son Imagen” and toured with them throughout Russia, Czechoslovakia, Jamaica & Bahamas. After graduating, Waldo performed with the groups, “Salsa Caracol” and “Tumbao Habana” where he developed his skills as a composer as well as a singer.
He toured around Japan and Mexico and shared stages with Oscar D’ León, Gilberto Santa Rosa and Raúl del Valle.
After his success with “Tumbao Habana” he decided on a solo career and the record label, “EGREM” offered him a recording contract resulting in the critically acclaimed debut album “Bendito Tiempo”.
His romantic voice and his special lyrics have attracted followers from all ages.
